The White Horse was a pub on Broad Street in Oxford. It was in here that Lyra Silvertongue met up with Dick Orchard. The bar in the pub was small and narrow and, in the evening, the pub was filled with office workers. During the term, a lot of undergraduates came here.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

  • When he was an undergraduate, Philip Pullman used to go to this pub a lot. The detail that there was a scene set in the White Horse in The Secret Commonwealth was one of the first pieces of information about the book released. Pullman talked about it in an interview just after La Belle Sauvage was published, on the 22 October 2017, commenting "I haven’t told the owners or asked them if I can use the name, but it’s my world, not their world, so maybe it’s all right".[2]
