"It's like a fortress. You'll never get in."
Mrs Simkin referring to Wallingford Priory[src]

Wallingford Priory was a large fortress-like priory situated on a height above the River Thames in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. It was home to the Sisters of Holy Obedience, Office of Child Protection (directed by Brother Peter) and was where the baby Lyra Belacqua was held for some time during the Flood of 1986. The Mother Superior was in charge of the priory.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • John Faa mistakenly told Lyra that she had been placed in the priory at Watlington with the Sisters of Obedience, conflating both the fact Lyra was placed at the Priory at Godstow and her kidnap to the Priory at Wallingford, and getting the name slightly wrong.
