The suburbs of the land of the dead were a part of the world of the dead. All ghosts arrived here and were ferried to the land of the dead by the boatman. Living people have been known to arrive in the world of the dead. In this case, they were forced to live the rest of their lives in the suburbs of the dead, waiting to die. The houses there were small, shabby huts made of plastic or corrugated iron. There were a few electrical lines which powered some light bulbs but most of the light there came from fires.[1]
