Scimitars were curved swords. The three white-robed assassins who hacked Saint Simeon to death as he prepared for celebrations at the oratory of the Holy Wisdom in Constantinople used them as their weapons. During the assassination, the eunoch Kaloumdjian was decapitated and two sub-deacons, Archdeacon Phalarion and several other prelates were also killed before the guards regained control.[1]
