A rose, called a gül in many Central Asian languages, was a plant in Lyra's world. There were multiple different species of rose. Rosewater could be made with roses.[1] The seeds for Rosa lopnoriae were irregular in shape and were of a grey-brown colour.[2]

History[edit | edit source]

During the medieval times, a lot of rose oil (attar of roses) was grown in Bulgaria. However, the trade suffered from the Balkan wars and, as the climate was changing, it became harder to grow there so the trade moved further east into Asia.[3]
