Pierre Binaud was a man from Lyra's world who was in his 60s. He was the Chief Justice of the Consistorial Court of Discipline. His dæmon was a scarlet snake. Once, he had a meeting with Marcel Delamare regarding the escape of Anthony Hassall from the botanical research station.

Later, at the Magisterial Congress when Lyra Silvertongue was 20, Pierre interrupted Marcel during a conversation with the Abbess of the Order of St Julian about the final plenary session for the congress. Marcel told Pierre to ask someone from the Office of Ceremonial to explain.

Pierre had some sort of relationship with Madame Delamare and Marcel thought that he was planning to do something with Lyra Silvertongue if Madame Delamare ever took Lyra Silvertongue into her care.
