Paris was a city, presumably in France, where the principle scholar of the alethiometer was spending a sabbatical term at the Bibliothèque Nationale.[1] The alethiometer readers in Paris were sympathetic towards the Magisterium's cause and so would not work as agents for Oakley Street.[2]

In Anthony Hassall's wallet, Lyra discovered a train ticket for the return journey from Paris to Marseilles.[3]
