The Oratory of St Barnabas the Chymist was a Venetian style building on Great Clarendon Street in Jericho in Lyra's world. It was designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield and was dedicated to Saint Barnabas. It towered over the back streets of Jericho and could be seen from the woods of White Ham.[1] When the River Thames burst its banks in the floods of 1986, Malcolm Polstead could see the campanile of St Barnabas from his canoe.[2]
