Nova Zembla was an island located off the Northern coast of Tartary, between the Kara Sea and the Arctic Ocean.^[1] It was here that Iorek Byrnison crafted his own armour from sky-iron.^[2]

Nova Zembla is likely based off the island of Novaya Zemlya in our world. The island is inhabited by large numbers of polar bears.
