Muscovy was a country in Lyra's world. A person from Muscovy was called a Muscovite.[1] The island of Novy Odense belonged to this nation.[2] It was located near Western Siberia and Turki.[3]
The equivalent in Will's world was known as the Soviet Union.[4]

It was rumoured that Tartary had invaded Muscovy and that Tartars were making their way north to St Petersburg, from where they would be able to dominate the Baltic Sea and eventually the entire west of Europe.[5]
Boris Rusakov, a scientist who contributed to the discovery of Dust, was from Muscovy.
