Mr Taphouse was an old carpenter whose workshop was near the Godstow Priory, for whom he worked. He was acquainted with Malcolm Polstead, who sometimes helped him with his work. His dæmon was a woodpecker.[1]
Mr Taphouse claimed to have seen a ghost three times in his life. Once at St Peter's Church in Wolvercote, the second at the Old Gaol and the third in his workshop.[2]
Mr Taphouse was extremely knowledgeable in his work and would often give tips to Malcolm. For example, he told Malcolm about Danish oil and how to keep safe whilst using it.[3]
