Metatron was an angel, formerly known as Enoch when he was a human. He became more powerful than the Authority and seized control of the Kingdom of Heaven. He was killed by Lord Asriel and Marisa Coulter as they dragged him into the Abyss.

Biography

Metatron was once a human named Enoch, the son of Jared, son of Mahalalel, son of Kenan, son of Enosh, son of Seth, son of Adam. He had a brother named Baruch who also became an angel.

Around 2000 B.C., the Authority chose Metatron to be his Regent. The Authority believed that conscious beings were becoming too independent, and together with Metatron, he planned to set up an inquisition in every world.

Metatron became more powerful than the Authority and seized control. To keep dominance, he betrayed and trapped the Authority in the crystal box; this successfully kept the other angel alive, but imprisoned.

He shared the belief of many that Lyra Silvertongue was the second Eve, who was destined to fall into temptation like the first. Metatron was killed by Lord Asriel and Marisa Coulter as they all fell into the Abyss.

Personality

"Metatron is proud and his ambition is limitless"
Baruch[src]

Though he became an angel, Metatron still had human vices, and consequently became greedy and oppressive with God's rule. This was a major weakness, as it left him vulnerable to the lecherous temptation of Marisa Coulter.

Behind the scenes

  • According to Jewish Apocrypha, Metatron is the name that Enoch was given when he rose to become an Archangel.[1]
