    • Good luck! Would you be able to delete some of the useless redirects too? For example Mur:Coeurdegeai as they are useless. You can find a list of all user talk archives here

  • Hi NightSpeakers. I am prepared to give your bot privileges once I become a bureaucrat. Being just a measly administrator, it turns out I cannot give it bot status right now.

  • Hey NightSpeakers, just want to talk to you a bit about your bot's contributions because I see you've been using it a lot more. One thing I noticed is that you've been changing [[Will Parry]] to [[William Parry|Will Parry]]. Avoiding redirects in this manner is actually frowned upon and unnecessary, so please try to avoid such changes.

    Also, I noticed the bot has been editing user pages, and as far as I know, these users have not given permission, so (if possible), please do not allow your bot to edit user pages.

    Lastly, please keep in mind that because bots make so many changes, the only effective way for me to monitor them is through the edit descriptions because checking each individual edit is too big of a feat. So descriptions like "fixing capitalisation" or "fixing consistency" do not help me monitor changes. Please make descriptions more accurate like "changing Will Parry link to William Parry" or "fixing north to North." This would help a lot!

    Thanks and happy editing!

    • Hi. Okay thanks! Just a few things:

      1. Yeah, I understand, I can be like that sometimes. I'll try to avoid those things. Lots of other wikis I use my bot on think redirects are a bit 'messy' - hope you understand with wikis with different rules it's hard to keep track lol. When I use my bot I click on 'general fixes' - and unfortunately this is normally changing redirects to the main page. I hope if anything like that happens again you'll understand. I can always change it back if you want. I see you've changed it on Lyra's page - I can do it in about 3 minutes which will save you many hours!

      2. Just realised it's changing user pages x___X whilst they are dead users (though changing anyone's user space is definitely not allowed), I must have clicked the wrong button, sorry about that. Apparantly it has changed forums and signatures, I forgot to untick that box - I promise that will not happen again! AutoWikiBrowser is a bit like that - very annoying.

      3. Edit summaries vary a lot! AWB often adds its own summary which isn't always the best and can make it sound like my bot is vandalising. I.e. once my bot removed a duplicate space and the summary was 'blanking'...didn't go down well with the admins. I often make multiple changes of different kinds in one go to save a lot of time. This means I have to put broadly what I am doing which can be 'fixing capitalisation' and likewise. I'll turn back on the AWB auto edit summaries thing and that should do the trick.

      Hope you understand the confusing world of bots! Happy editing!

    • By the way, for point 3 the AWB summaries are basic and often 'Typo ---> Will Parry to William Parry and so very simple a bit like when you edit a message on a message wall and it says 'editing message' and you can't change the summary. I don't want to have to make you scroll through hundreds of edits if I could just click a box - thanks for telling me!

  • I have once again gone through and removed the category Infobox preload templates because it has NOT been fixed and still loads into pages when selected. Please do not add this category again. The preload templates can remain uncategorized.

  • What is this WAM page that you've created?

    • Hi Musical33,

      It's an automatically created page......I basically added personal js that allowed me to see the WAM score but as a side effect it created that page. It basically logs all the previous WAM data.

      By the way, should you redirect your previous user profile to your current one?

    • I'm just going to expand on this to make sure the page doesn't get deleted :P.

      So the Wiki Activity Moniter is a great way to see how well a wiki is doing (amount of viewers, editers etc. etc.) and so it's important to moniter it. I have recently been gathering older data, collecting it together to hopefully end up seeing how well the wiki has progressed since 2012. The log for this data (so that it's easy to see this graph and doesn't take hours to load) is located at His Dark Materials:WAM Log (and unfortunately, without changing the main code, I can't change this page name).

      If you wish to see the graph then add to Special:Mypage/common.js the following code:

      	/*Adds RailWAM*/
      window.railWAM = {
          logPage:"Project:WAM Log",
          top5000mode:"true"
      };

      // importArticles call
      importArticles({
          type: 'script',
          articles: [
              'u:dev:MediaWiki:RailWAM/code.js'
          ]
      });

      Once this has been added, after caching your page, then a little bar will appear above 'Recent Wiki Acivity' displaying a bunch of links with WAM related stuff. Once installed, go to Special:BlankPage/RailWAM/Graph and change the dates to whatever you wish. You can then how WAM has changed over time :D.

      If you do decide to check this out (I definitely suggest that you take a look!) you can add the script with customisability options to the whole wiki (more details of that can be seen at w:c:dev:RailWAM). To see an example of a wiki like this, go to w:c:anneofgreengables:Special:WikiActivity. On that wiki, you can see the Community and Chat sidebar tabs have merged together on certain pages (this is not because of the RailWAM code).

      Haha! Well, that was a long message - probably confusing and whatnot but hopefully you'll be able to track the wiki's growth.

  • Hi, just wondering: can your bot easily add navboxes to a bunch of pages? Or is it a lengthy process?

    • It depends on the pages inside the navbox. Whatever the pages, it takes a lot shorter than doing it by hand. To use AWB, I have to compose a list of all the titles in the navbox and so it's easier if these pages are in one category (as there's a tool to add all pages in a specific category to the list). For example, doing the alethiometer symbols template was very simple as all the pages are in the same category. Pages in different categories are slightly more time consuming - but still a lot quicker than manually editing pages. If you need to me to add any further navboxes, just leave me a message! :)
