Hi again! Wanted to make sure you saw this. There's a His Dark Materials virtual panel scheduled for SDCC that anyone is free to watch live this Thursday at 1:00pm PT. It might (hopefully!) reveal some fun stuff about the series. Do you think you'll catch it?
Hello! I'm Kylara, and I'll be taking over as your Wiki Manager, since Mandy has been promoted to Community Manager. Just like Mandy, I'm here to help, so feel free to reach out and let me know if you have any questions!
I'm here to check in to see how things are going, and I want to make sure that you catch these important Fandom updates.
The Unified Community Platform (UCP) is coming this year, which means that all Fandom Wikis will be getting some much-needed renovations (and new features!) as we move to an upgraded version of MediaWiki. Check out the Staff blog post UCP: The Vision, Purpose, and Process for information on the roll out plan, which will come out this year in stages.
Hi there! Just wanted to introduce myself as well :) I'm Ari and I'm a Content Manager from FANDOM and I'm available tomorrow if you guys need any extra help adding info as the news gets released from Comic Con! Anything you need, don't hesitate to ask :)
I've been editing this wikia since March last year and it is without a doubt my favourite Fandom project that I've been a part of. I love editing here and have been amazed to watch it grow from a c. 600 page site to one with over 1.5k pages. However, due to senior high school next year, family and social committments and other factors I am worried that I will not be able to put in the effort required for the role of an admin. Since September I've already struggled to even put in the edits of a frequent editor, and in the last couple of months I've done next to nothing, let alone make the contributions and provide help that an admin should. For these reasons I would like to resign as an admin.
I hope to be able to continue editing here to fill in any last Secret Commonwealth and TV series pages that need finishing, but unfortunately my time here will be limited. I'm disappointed that I'm missing such a big time for this community with all the new editors, but I'll see how other personal factors turn out and maybe later I'll be able to return as a much more frequent editor.
Anyway, thanks for initally considering me for the adminship and being such a great help around the place!
I'm so sorry to see you go, but I appreciate everything you've done around the wiki. Your presence on the wiki helped me immensely in the past when I was bogged down with work, so you were an obvious choice to be an admin! Be proud of everything you were able to accomplish while on the wiki, because I'm super appreciative! Even though you're not able to contribute as much now, I'll still be glad to see you around the wiki from time to time :)
I will be removing your admin status and listing you on pages as a former admin. Please come to me if you ever want your adminship back!
Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication!
Me too - thanks for all the work you've done here and you certainly won't be forgotten (with all your pages and edits)! I hope you do check in once in a while - you'll be missed sorely. Hope school goes well for you - good luck for the years in the future!
Well, as you can see we have already integrated the HBO/BBC TV Series into our wiki, and we've been highlighted on the FANDOM main pages as the reference for all things His Dark Materials related (book, movie and TV series). We are not going to create separate pages for the characters, but we incorporate information from both the book and the TV series on Lyra's page. Creating a separate wiki isn't practical because we already have pictures of the TV series and we even have characters from the TV series (i.e. Thomas)
Well it all depends on how you're watching the TV Series. I watch mine through HBO, so I choose to access the episodes through the Hulu website. I don't know of any other ways of watching the TV series. Sorry!
Idekmandy has just made a test wiki, which includes new and improved designs for the wiki, which I hope you'll be blown away by as much as I was! Hopefully, before the TV series airs, we can move these ideas onto the actual wiki. These were the ideas for the changes in design and Mandy has, so far, done the wordmark & theme, I did the navigation a few months ago (any suggestions welcome) and the home page & infoboxes will come soon! You've been given admin rights on the test wiki too (until it's deleted) so you can see how certain things work on the new sceme.
Not everything's set in stone, though, feedback/suggestions/questions are welcome on the test wiki. At some point, a Discussions post/Message Wall thread will be made where you can post things like that.
Another thing to change is the URL of the wiki. Mandy has suggested changing hdm.fandom.com to hisdarkmaterials.fandom.com to make the wiki more searchable. Doing this will have a major impact on our SEO, help more potential readers find the wiki and (possibly) help us overtake other sites in search ranking (particularly trying to get the wiki to the top spot when searching Lyra Silvertongue).
Please let me know as soon as you can if you're ok with the wiki's URL being changed so Mandy can ask staff to update it before the TV series is out. If you have any suggestions for a better URL feel free to reply with that too. Hope to hear back from you by Sunday so that we can update it quickly! Thanks!
Well, hisdarkmaterials.fandom.com already redirects to hdm.fandom.com, so I don't mind if the URL is changed to that (but I'm not sure if it will change our search rankings). I trust your opinion on the matter though!
Hello! Just in case you haven't heard, Fandom has launched a new Editor Rewards Program to thank hard-working users for their contributions to the platform. You can check out all of the information in this blog post. Feel free to comment on the blog if you have any feedback, questions, or concerns, and the Editor Experience Team will be happy to answer!
Hi! I'm here to bring you big news from Fandom! The new Analytics feature has just been released for admins, which you can read more about in this blog post. This feature is particularly exciting because it will give you access to insightful statistics that allow you to see what areas are doing well and how to best capitalize on them in order to strengthen the community. You can visit Special:Analytics to access the data, and if you need any help, you can check out the help page for additional information. Please let me know if you have any further questions or feedback and I'll be happy to answer :)
P.S. Can you update the poll as per the forum? And maybe even share some of the new statistics from Special:Analytics if possible (where users are reading the wiki from, what devices users are reading it on, how many readers there are a week) - it would be great to see who the wiki is reaching!
A user (22.214.171.124) recently made a vandal edit to the Billy Costa page, replacing the appearance of Northern Lights with something rather explicit. Funnily enough, they attempted to undo their vandalism but, not knowing about the version history function, simply re-wrote the appearance unformatted. This made it particularly tedious to undo as I had to leaf through several different versions of the page.
I think adding the 'ty' makes it more of a common American slang and not really a swear word...but don't quote me on that! But, yes, they did attempt to undo the vandalism after 24 mins (quite some time really) - seems we're getting quite a few anons & registered vandals!
Musical33, would you be able to share some of the figures at Special:Analytics so we can focus on certain pages on the wiki and see what kind of audience are viewing the wiki? (Most popular pages, Geolcation, common search terms, number of mobile users etc.)
Hi Musical33, my name is Antonio and I am a Community Manager of the TV/Movies vertical for Fandom. I wanted to introduce myself and see if you need anything, have any problems, or would like to share any ideas you have. As you may already know, our Community Org is changing. From now on our team will focus even more on building closer relationships with the communities, admins, and users.
We are here to support you and help make this community thrive. If you need anything, feel free to contact me or our Wiki Manager directly at any time. And just so you know, Wiki Managers might be more available than me on weekends.
I will be here together to Idekmandy -Wiki Manager- for anything you need.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope to hear back from you soon! :)
