Idekmandy has just made a test wiki, which includes new and improved designs for the wiki, which I hope you'll be blown away by as much as I was! Hopefully, before the TV series airs, we can move these ideas onto the actual wiki. These were the ideas for the changes in design and Mandy has, so far, done the wordmark & theme, I did the navigation a few months ago (any suggestions welcome) and the home page & infoboxes will come soon! You've been given admin rights on the test wiki too (until it's deleted) so you can see how certain things work on the new sceme.
Not everything's set in stone, though, feedback/suggestions/questions are welcome on the test wiki. At some point, a Discussions post/Message Wall thread will be made where you can post things like that.
Another thing is the URL of the wiki. Mandy has suggested changing hdm.fandom.com to hisdarkmaterials.fandom.com to make the wiki more searchable. Doing this will have a major impact on our SEO, help more potential readers find the wiki and (possibly) help us overtake other sites in search ranking (particularly trying to get the wiki to the top spot when searching Lyra Silvertongue).
Please let me know as soon as you can if you're ok with the wiki's URL being changed so Mandy can ask staff to update it before the TV series is out. If you have any suggestions for a better URL feel free to reply with that too. Hope to hear back from you by Sunday so that we can update it quickly! Thanks!
Hello! Just in case you haven't heard, Fandom has launched a new Editor Rewards Program to thank hard-working users for their contributions to the platform. You can check out all of the information in this blog post. Feel free to comment on the blog if you have any feedback, questions, or concerns, and the Editor Experience Team will be happy to answer!
Hi! I'm here to bring you big news from Fandom! The new Analytics feature has just been released for admins, which you can read more about in this blog post. This feature is particularly exciting because it will give you access to insightful statistics that allow you to see what areas are doing well and how to best capitalize on them in order to strengthen the community. You can visit Special:Analytics to access the data, and if you need any help, you can check out the help page for additional information. Please let me know if you have any further questions or feedback and I'll be happy to answer :)
I'm wondering where you managed to find the images of the chapter illustrations for LBS, I can't see them anywhere online (except the wiki, of course) - did you find them on a website, scan them or otherwise? And are you be able to do the same for TSC's chapter illustrations?
They're from the e-book. I bought it because my LBS hardback edition was delayed. I'm not certain yet whether I'll get the TSC e-book but, if I do, I could get the chapter illustrations from it in the same way.
Thanks for uploading the full-page illustrations and for your reply! Is that how you also got the full-page illustrations? I know a few of them are on Chris Wormell's site but not as many as the amount you uploaded. If possible, would you be able to upload this image of Sister Fenella from wherever you got the illustrations? Thanks!
Unfortunately, the full-page illustrations aren't from the e-book; I scoured them from various places online. I managed to find three more today (including the Sister Fenella one) but it think it's unlikely that all 25 are findable.
Thanks so much for uploading the TSC illustrations! If you're interested, there's another LBS full-page one featured further down the page on Amazon. Can't wait to see Wormell's illustrations for the new book!
I'll get back to you on your talk pages shortly (I'm currently well over half way into the bokk but want to finish it first before I make any conclusions).
Hi ArgentFir, my name is Antonio and I am a Community Manager of the TV/Movies vertical for Fandom. I wanted to introduce myself and see if you need anything, have any problems, or would like to share any ideas you have. As you may already know, our Community Org is changing. From now on our team will focus even more on building closer relationships with the communities, admins, and users.
We are here to support you and help make this community thrive. If you need anything, feel free to contact me or our Wiki Manager directly at any time. And just so you know, Wiki Managers might be more available than me on weekends.
I will be here together to Idekmandy -Wiki Manager- for anything you need.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope to hear back from you soon! :)
Hey! Just in case you don't know, I'm excited to inform you that Fandom now has an official Discord server for Fandom and Gamepedia editors! If you're interested in joining, you can learn more about it in this blog post. Ultimately, the server allows for better communication with staff and fellow editors, and I will be easily accessible there if you ever need any help. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you there!
Hey there! My name is Mandy, and I’m the Fandom Wiki Manager assigned to the His Dark Materials Wiki. No worries, I am not here to take over. My job is to help the community and serve as a liaison between contributors and full-time Fandom staff. I will be your primary point of contact should any assistance be needed, so if you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, etc., don't hesitate to leave a message on my wall and I will do my best to help. If I am unable to solve your issue, I will be able to get in contact with a staff member that can. I will also be getting in contact with the rest of the active admins in this community to introduce myself and inform them of my position. In the meantime, please let me know if there's anything I can do for you or if you have any further questions regarding my role, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Looking forward to working with you in the future!
Additionally, I am happy to inform you that Fandom will be upgrading to a more modern version of MediaWiki, the platform that powers your wiki. You can read more about it in this blog post.
The wiki has just reached 1000 pages! Can I just take this moment to thank you for all your hard work over the past 5 years - adding LOADS of information to pages, maintaining the wiki, keeping an eye out for any news on the series and for correcting any (of my main) mistakes on behalf of all the wiki's editors and readers.
Your work is admirable and I'm sure the 1000+ people who view the wiki weekly are really grateful! Keep up the great work and thank you so much!
Thanks for the message and apologies for my late reply. I'd also like to take the chance to thank you for all your hard work; a lot of those pages were created by you! So much progress has been made since I first joined this wiki and I hope that continues with all the exciting new things we have to look forward to.
Well, I maintain that a bot would probably be easiest in making these edits, and it would avoid cluttering the Wiki Activity. Or I would've agreed with the opinion to merely change the label and retain the data as job, which isn't necessarily confusing. Or make it so that occupation and job data can be interchangeable and both appear as occupation, so that we don't have to change the past infoboxes unless we are already editing that page. Apologies for not noticing that talk page topic sooner.
Point taken. An advantage of doing the edits manually, however, is that I have been able to add/edit information as I go. I am attempting to complete the edits within a fairly short window to keep Activity as contained as possible. In future, would you prefer me to leave a message on your wall?
For future reference you can always contact staff and request a bot flag for your account. Then perform the edits and they will be hidden from Wiki Activity. Once the task is done, you can simply go to your user rights management and remove the bot tag. :)
Hey ArgentFir, you seem to be the only other admin who is semiactive this week (I haven't been able to get in touch with Amyosaurus or Evilquoll). I'm wondering if you would be willing promote me to bureaucrat status so that I may take more authority in the wiki? Thanks in advance for your input!
To me it seems as though there is no other active admins, as the last time one of them posted was over a month ago. I'm not sure what the time frame of bureaucrat adoption is, but I think that it may be soon if none of the other admins are online. You may need to adopt the wiki soon if necessary.
The time frame is the same - 60 days however there is a chance we don't have to go through that whole boring process. Unless someone really needs to promote someone then we should wait a while longer. It would be sad to have to go through yet another 'new bureaucrat' adoption phase.
Sorry for the monstrously long wait for a reply; my ability to be active right now is rather limited. I saw that you recently asked Evilquoll for the same thing. I am certainly not against giving you bureaucrat status, but I do like the idea of a consensus and would ideally like to have Amy's input, too.
I understand that this puts me in a position of not really making a decision, which doesn't much help anyone. Given that others here have expressed support for you I'm inclined to go ahead if we don't hear from Amy within the next few weeks. How does that sound?
In the meantime, I'll try to monitor my message wall, if not the rest of the wiki, much more regularly - so you should be able to get my attention much sooner if you need it!
