Dr Carne, the former Master of Jordan College when Lyra was a child.
The Master of Jordan College was a man who was in charge of Jordan College in Oxford in Lyra's world. The Master lived in the Master's Lodging. Portraits of former masters were hung high up on the walls of the hall.[1] Former masters' coffins, with a coin for their dæmons, were located in the Jordan catacombs.[2]
