This article is about the first episode in the TV series. You may be looking for Roger Parslow, Lyra Silvertongue's best friend at Jordan College who appears in this episode.

Roger[1] is the first episode in the first series of the TV series. It will be released on the 3 November on BBC One in the UK and on 4 November on HBO in the US.[2]

The show was shown at BFI Sandbank in London on 15 October. Tickets went on sale to the public on 24 September.[3]

Plot

"A human soul takes the physical form of an animal, known as a dæmon. The relationship between human and dæmon is sacred.

The world has been controlled for centuries by the all-powerful Magisterium. Except in the wilderness of the North, where witches whisper of a prophecy. A prophecy of a child with a great destiny.

During the great flood, this child was brought to Oxford.

The episode begins with Lord Asriel taking the baby Lyra Belacqua to Jordan College during the floods, scenes taken from La Belle Sauvage. Asriel flies his gyropter through the streets of Oxford before wading through the water to get to Jordan and give Lyra the protection of scholastic sanctuary.
