Lydia Alexandrovna was the elderly housekeeper for Otyets Semyon Borisovitch, a priest Will Parry met in Kholodnoye as he began his travels through Lyra's world

Lydia Alexandrovna waited on the priest and Will, bringing first tea, then beetroot soup and bread. The bitter tea was sweetened by a conserve of her own creation, made from bilberries. Her sister was the source of the priest's news the armoured bears were travelling upriver close to Kholodnoye. The priest's crude joke about the elderly woman and his vodka made Will "hideously uneasy."[1]
