Professor Lucy Arnold was the Director at the Botanic Garden in Oxford. She had a hummingbird-dæmon. She talked to Malcolm Polstead and asked him what he knew about Anthony Hassall after he went missing.
Biography[edit | edit source]
As Director of the Botanic Garden, Lucy was aware of the research into roses at the botanical research station in Lop Nor. She and her colleagues were concerned that Dr Hassall had been missing for weeks after disappearing from the Station.
She was shocked, suspicious and alarmed when Malcolm brought her Hassall's wallet and tried to make excuses about not telling him more about the research into roses.
Lucy later organised a meeting in the Linnaeus Room after she was required to identify Hassall's body. She invited Malcolm, Charles Capes, Brewster Napier, Annabel Milner, Lars Johnsson and Timur Ghazarian. The meeting was interrupted by Captain Hartland and two other CCD men.
Physical description[edit | edit source]
Lucy looked around forty and was blonde as well as slender and fierce-looking according to Malcolm. She had short nails with a little dirt underneath, presumably from her work with plants.
Personality and traits[edit | edit source]
Lucy was perplexed and frightened by the situation around her, but did her best to mask her fear. She was considerably shaken by Hassall's death and was uncomfortable expressing it to Malcolm, a stranger. Malcolm easily saw through her attempts to lie. Hannah Relf thought her cautious, intense and even a little tragic.
