Behind the scenesEdit
- Lascar derives from the Persian lashkar, a word meaning camp or army. Lascars were non-European sailors or militiamen who served on European ships during the colonial era. The term most often referred to those from the Indian Subcontient or Southeast Asia, although it was sometimes used to describe those of other non-European backgrounds (including those from the Arab world).
