For the His Dark Materials Wiki to remain uniform, orderly, and cohesive, there must first and foremost be certain stylistic ground rules articles must adhere to. For information on basic article editing techniques and protocols, see Wikipedia's Manual of Style.
Layout structure[]
All articles on characters, locations, organisations, and other elements of the His Dark Materials multiverse should follow a uniform layout and style, as demonstrated below.
- Main article
This is where the bulk of the information goes. This section should always be from an in-universe, past tense perspective, unless the article deals with a specifically out-of-universe topic.
- Physical description
For a description of the appearance of a character/object
- Behind the scenes
This is an out-of-universe section designed to add out-of-universe commentary on in-universe topics.
- Appearances
In this section, the book or supplement that the subject of the article appears in should be referenced. All in-universe articles must contain this section.
- External links
For linking to off-site related pages.
- (Notes and) References
All articles should have a references section. When adding new information to the wiki, references should always be added. If this section also includes notes, then please add "Notes and" in front of the References title.
- Stub
If the article in incomplete or there is not enough information about the subject written then put the template {{stub|<article>}} a clear line above the categories at the end of the article. Alternatively, use {{stub|<section>}} at the end of a section.
- Navboxes
In the case where an article is included in a navbox (a full list found here), add the navbox above the categories and interlanguage links. In the case where no navbox is included on a page, you can suggest navboxes on the forum.
- Interlanguage links
If there are translations of this article in one of the other HDM wikis in other languages, then add interlanguage link(s) to the page.
- Category
Category tags go at the bottom of the page.
