The ghost was one of the parts of a human, along with the body and the soul, or dæmon. After a human died, their ghost was guided to the world of the dead by their death, where it was ferried to the land of the dead by the boatman.[1]
A ghost is forced into cohesion by the nature of the world of the dead, but whenever a ghost entered the world of the living, it disintegrates into particles that mingle with the universe, reuniting with their soul. A ghost could however hold itself together for a short amount of time while in the world of living, as Roger Parslow, John Parry and Lee Scoresby once did.
