Elephants were a large animal species that lived in the continent of Africa.[1] They looked very similar to the mulefa in another world where Lyra Silvertongue and her dæmon travelled to. Elephants had strong and powerful tusks that they used to attack their enemies during battles.[2] A symbol of an elephant was seen on the alethiometer which meant Africa, charity, and continence.[3]
