Lyra's and Will's world, its governing book being the Bible. It was a monotheistic religion based on God.[1] The religion attracted many worshipping groups and locations including the Holy Church. To become a Christian, like Iofur Raknison wanted to, one had to be baptised and have a dæmon.[2] The leader of the religion was formally the Pope but, once the last had died, the power was given to the Church.[3] Followers were called Christians.
