Cardinal Sturrock was an elderly cardinal of the Holy Church in Lyra's world. He attended a meeting of clerics and Marisa Coulter following Lord Asriel's creation of the path to another world. He was the only one not intimidated by Mrs Coulter, even questioning if she had hidden information about her daughter Lyra Silvertongue from the Church.
During the torture and interrogation of a witch on board the ship, Serafina Pekkala appeared and killed the witch before she could reveal vital information. On her way out, she shot an arrow and took out the Cardinal.[1]
