The basalt fortress was the headquarters of Lord Asriel's operations for overthrowing the Authority and was located in the Republic of Heaven.[1]

The fortress was located on the peak of a mountain range in the Republic of Heaven. The range had sawtooth ridges and black rock.[1]
Description[]
The battlments of the fortress were formed of slabs of basalt about half a hill in height. Below, there were huge fires where blacksmiths worked. Asriel said he designed the fortress to withstand Angelic force.
