An anbaric crane was used on Novy Odense to move heavy items off boats at the harbour. There were several, two of which were on the east side of the harbour. They could lift 12 and 8 tons respectively. Lee Scoresby saw a large crane, which was being attended by more men than needed, on one side of the harbour and working to set a new mainmast in a barque. On the other side, were two smaller anbaric cranes: one was loading barrels of fish-oil into a small steam coaster whilst the second was unloading some timber piled high on the deck of another small steam coaster.
