Ama was the name of a young girl living in a Himalayan Village. Her daemon's name is Kulang. Her father is a herdsman. She meets Marisa Coulter, the head of the General Oblation Board. Coulter informs her that she is a holy woman, and Ama brings her food and gifts for many days. Ultimately she learns about the evil designs of Coulter, and helps Lyra to come out of the the clutches of Coulter.
