Ama's father was a member of the Himalayan village near the Valley of the Rainbows. One time, he went with his daughter Ama to the cave where Marisa Coulter kept her daughter, Lyra Silvertongue, asleep. Marisa was pretending to be a holy woman and said she could not speak with men, so during Ama's visit to bring food, her father stood outside looking in. He and his dæmon were troubled when Ama disappeared further into the cave, although he calmed down when she reappeared.[1]
